FAQs

Tracking our communities’ responses to the mpox outbreak.

  • To measure mpox vaccine uptake and real-world effectiveness.
  • Determine the effectiveness of different vaccine dosing strategies.
  • Identify under-vaccinated populations to guide public health response.

You can enrol if you are:

  1. Aged 18 years or older and living in Australia.
  2. Had sex with men who have sex with other men (whether cis or trans) and/or non-binary people who have sex with men.

If you don’t meet the second item but are at risk of mpox, you can still join the study. Your input is just as important.

Each week, you’ll be asked to complete a brief 1-minute survey about mpox vaccine, testing, and your sexual behaviours. Depending on what you’ve been up to, there may be additional questions, such as mpox testing and vaccination details. Your first survey will be slightly longer (approx. 2 minutes), so we can ask a few questions about you and your opinions.

You can help prevent the spread of mpox in Australia and shape the public health response. To show our appreciation, you’ll automatically go into a raffle to win one of 15 weekly electronic gift cards valued at $50.00 each for every questionnaire you complete within 48 hours. Winners are notified every Thursday.

Protecting your confidentiality is our highest priority. Confidentiality of all data is strictly always maintained and in accordance with UNSW Sydney Human Research Ethics Committee policies.

All information will be stored in a deidentified format where your identity will be unknown and NOT stored with your survey answers.

TraX data collection and survey invites are entirely automated. That means no study staff need or have access to your personal details.

You can withdraw at any time by clicking on the ‘consent’ link at the end of each email you receive.

TraX is a national collaboration being led at Kirby Institute at UNSW Sydney, in collaboration with leading experts and community organisations.
